Amazing flavours- also good if you don’t want super sweet ice cream options. I liked the basil flavour, and the Syrian Pistachio. I really disliked the lapsang chocolate it was too Smokey for me. But the Madagascan chocolate was 10/10. This is a little ice cream bar with takeaway only. You have to eat it outside.

We ended my trip in Rome on a rainy Monday evening in November... but with an amazing ice cream! They recommended the white almond and ricotta, and they're delicious flavors! I'll be back in Rome in May, I'll come visit you! Emily

SO good!!!!! Man do I wish we had one of these nearby. Randomly came across Fatamorgana while walking near r rental. LOVE that they use fresh, real ingredients. They have the typical chocolate chip and fruit flavors, which were so delicious. However, they also have some really unusual flavors that r intriguing like chocolate tobacco, black rice w/rose buds, soft cheese w/pear sauce & walnuts, and other herb based flavors. We tried chocolate tobacco & really enjoyed it (didn't try the other wonky flavors). Pricing here is higher than other gelato spots, but it was well worth the cost. The shop has an upscale feel. The man working the counter was quite knowledgeable about all the flavors and it seemed he was being conscientious about cleanliness, which was appreciated. Definitely stop by here if in the area!

Incredible. Natural ingredients. The basil gelato is so refreshing. The flavors of the sorbets are so creative and taste dynamite. I suggest you try a flavor you never tried! Small portions because they are made in small fresh batches. My favorite in all of Italy!

I first discovered fatamorgana on Instagram, and with so many gelato shops in Rome, it’s easy to end up disappointed. But this place was absolutely amazing! I tried the chocolate ricotta pear and banana sesame chocolate flavors — both were incredible, rich, and perfectly balanced. I’m still thinking about the ones I didn’t get to try! Definitely recommend this spot. And a little tip: when choosing gelato in Rome, avoid places where the colors look too bright like fluorescent or artificial.

Hidden among Rome’s timeless, weathered stone buildings, this delightful little ice cream shop sparkles with charm. Inside, the wonderful Anita from Poland scoops out ice cream with genuine warmth and a dazzling smile that brightens your day. Yesterday, my friend and I indulged in the silky, coffee-laced tiramisu ice cream and the rich, nutty hazelnut delight. Today, I was drawn back for the creamy, fruit-swirled blueberry cheesecake ice cream and the decadent, velvety chocolate Madagascar ice cream—purely unforgettable!

Huge selection of flavors, from traditional to adventurous. I tried one with ricotta and pear (delicious!) and my wife tried white almond (also delicious!) Neither was overly sweet, which we liked. I already know what I'm going to try next time: one scoop of carrot cake, one scoop of cognac & nutmeg creme pat. There was a walking tour there when we arrived, which is a good sign.

Fatamorgana Chiavari is a gem nestled in the heart of Rome, offering an extraordinary ice cream experience that goes beyond the ordinary. Located at Via dei Chiavari, 37A, this boutique gelato shop captivates with its inventive flavors and a commitment to fresh, natural ingredients. From the moment you step up to the counter, you are greeted by an array of imaginative options—each crafted with care and a refined palette in mind.

Their Bancone Gelato Di Frutti Di Bosco E Frutta Esotica stands out as a celebration of vibrant, fresh berries and exotic fruits, delivering crisp, refreshing notes that awaken the senses. For those seeking something more daring, the Gelato Petali Di Rosa E Matcha blends delicate rose petals with earthy, nuanced matcha green tea, creating a floral and slightly bitter harmony that lingers pleasantly.

Among the most memorable flavors are the Glace Amandes Grillées and the Syrian Pistachio, both praised for their authentic depth. The toasted almond gelato carries a warm nuttiness that contrasts beautifully with the subtle sweetness of the pistachio, often celebrated for its richness without overwhelming sugar levels. The Walnut Grape and Pumpkin with Seeds further demonstrate Fatamorgana’s ability to push boundaries—earthy, nutty, and texturally complex.

One cannot overlook the bold ventures like chocolate tobacco or black rice with rose buds. These flavors reflect the brand’s creative audacity and respect for sophisticated taste profiles. While the smoky notes in certain flavors such as the lapsang-infused chocolate may divide opinions, others — like the Madagascan chocolate — receive universal acclaim for their flawless balance and velvety texture.

Serving only takeaway, Fatamorgana encourages patrons to savor their creations al fresco, absorbing the lively Roman streetscape. This setting pairs perfectly with their Torte Gelato and the intriguing Riso Nero Petali Di Rosa, which blend floral and subtle grainy undertones, showcasing artisanal craftsmanship. Even their Gelato Alla Crema Di Vaniglia is distinguished, rich, and true to its vanilla bean origins, eschewing artificial sweetness.

Fatamorgana is more than just an ice cream shop; it’s an exploration of natural ingredients and innovative pairings. Each scoop tells a story of culinary passion and precision. Their attentive service and knowledgeable staff add to the upscale, intimate atmosphere, making it a must-visit for gelato lovers and adventurous foodies alike. If you seek genuine, handcrafted gelato that honors tradition yet daringly reimagines it, Fatamorgana Chiavari in Rome is a destination that will linger on your palate long after the last bite.
